The Golden Depot

I've presented the Golden Depot at the HP Technology Forum in 2007. Sincere thanks to all who have attended.

Abstract

The Golden Depot: A rational method for installing your HP-UX servers and keeping them up to date

Session Abstract: This breakout session will show a technique that helps installing HP-UX systems quickly, and keeping them up to date, using a technique called the "Golden Depot". A Golden Depot is similar in spirit to a Golden Image but it is contained in a Software Distributor depot instead of an archive, which makes it easier to maintain and update over time. Relying on custom-made packages and a few tools inspired from the open source world that will be presented to the attendees, the Golden Depot is a unique reference depot to which all servers synchronize their patches, software, and especially site-specific customizations.

Learning Objectives: There are tremendous time savings and enhanced server consistency that can be achieved by using a Golden Depot. This presentation will show a method that fully harnesses the power of SD depots to help attendees install and manage their systems.
